got started in domain names because of a blog called 4 Letter Noob, written by Reece Berg. He saw four-letter .coms like stocks and assigned value to certain letters, which made some combinations “premium.” He tracked median prices, wholesale values, and more, essentially turning them into tradable tokens.

Since I was a stock trader, it really resonated with me. I even had a note in one of my diaries from December 2007 about LLLL prices, mentioning that premium LLLLs were now worth $30. I went and hand-registered a bunch of lower-quality four-letter names, figuring if premiums were worth $30, then a hand registration at $8 had to be a good deal.

Obviously, those were great prices compared to today, but I could name millions of domains that are now worth far more. There were tens of thousands of hand registrations better than what I picked. But I knew what I knew—and no matter how successful I was back then, it led me to where I am now.

I can honestly say that if it weren’t for Reece, I wouldn’t be a domain investor. I would have found something else, and who knows how that would’ve gone.

Domain of the DayBuyHouseboats.com Currently at $310. I recently went to Seattle and noticed the entire shore of houseboats. All more expensive than “regular” boats. But really they are just floating homes that can move a little. They are literally mansions now.
