Happy Labor Day: Our Gift at DSAD: A List of Expired Domains at Auction
open it slowly
Happy Labor Day to all who celebrate. This used to be one of the tougher days at the nursery, because Labor Day is supposed to be a day off. The only issue is that plants don’t care what day it is. They still need water. Traditionally, it was still hot, and we had 10,000 mums ready to go. A lot of the nursery was on automatic watering, but corners needed checking, and if the wind blew, things were often less than accurate. Add in all the areas that still needed hand watering, and there was plenty to do.
Even so, it was usually a relaxed day. I used to bribe people to work by paying double time and giving them some kind of gift as a thank you. The sign-up sheet always filled fast. It proved what I already knew: there’s always a number that makes finding help easy, but it’s more than you can afford to pay every day of the year.
Now my brother handles it, and for me, every day feels like Labor Day. Two years into retirement, I don’t take my freedom for granted. I’ll admit there’s some guilt when I see everyone working hard, but my wife reminds me that I put in 60-hour weeks for 27 years. Before automatic irrigation, I drove back every night at 7 p.m. for a decade just to turn the water off. Nobody else did it—just me, because I lived close. Routine made it bearable. The hardest jobs become manageable when they’re part of your day. It’s the surprises that pile on top of a full schedule that are the real challenge.
Quote of the Day: “Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion.” — Simon Sinek
Domain of the Day: BeWell.com Heck of a name. Thus the $25K as I post this
