Monday's Big List of Domains at Auction for August 11th
.....don't maxi anything except profits
For those following along, I ended up running 34 miles, which was over my goal of 31 miles. I wanted to run 50K which is 31 miles. It was dangerously hot, and I did get to a point where I almost passed out, but I went to a cooling area, stayed there for 30 minutes, and rallied like a pro. Had a great finish. Pretty sure in normal weather I cross 40 miles. Getting closer to my 100-mile goal.
Other events over the weekend. I put a few names on Spaceship and like the overall look and feel of it. CSV file uploading was broken, and it is a bit clunky in places, but it is new. Competition is good, and while I love GoDaddy’s product and people, we know it is a slow-moving ship for advancements. Between Atom, Dynadot, and Namecheap, I think they have some financial pressures ahead. That being said, nobody is close to their expiry inventory and auctions. For the most part, it works extremely well, and my portfolio lives off the names that come across each day. We should all be very thankful for that.
This reiterates my consistent viewpoint. You do not have to maxi anything in this space. Your goal is to sell names, and you should have them in as many places as you can. You should have names and landers at all of the biggest players depending on the name. Everyone has value. Afternic has more discoverability than anyone, but if you think a lot of people are typing in your name, then you should have your own lander and import leads. If you have a brandable, then Atom may be your choice. There is something for everyone, with Afternic being the default. People make this so personal. Theo at DomainGang HATES GoDaddy and spends so much of his day bashing them as if they stole his girlfriend.
Burning bridges never makes sense to me in this small industry. We 100 percent need these companies to do better, but there is only one way to get there. Privately send them your concerns and publicly praise what they are doing well. I do not always follow this line, but it is my goal.
Quote of the Day: “If you don’t drive change, you will be driven out of business.” – Jack Welch
Domain of the Day: XNetwork.com No reserve. Heck of a name. This name is crushing it. May set the record for highest auction price on Atom
