Saturday's DSAD Auction List: WildCaught.com, Medical360.com, and Willie Nelson's Domain
Going to be a great weekend
I used to flip tickets for extra money. This was before everything moved online, and I lived right across the street from Wrigley Field. I’d try to get tickets from people who weren’t using them—usually coworkers from the trading floor—or catch traffic coming into Wrigley about a half mile up.
The easy money was in singles. Nobody wanted single tickets, and sellers knew they weren’t worth much. I held up a sign that said “Wanted: Singles” and underneath it, “I’ll make sure to sell it to someone hot.” That line alone got me free or cheap tickets all the time. I’d flip them to another seller for a little profit.
The best hustle was with the traders who gave me tickets thinking I was using them with friends. I’d take one and sell the others to strangers. They thought I went to the game and brought buddies. I got in for free and made enough for food too.
Online resale is probably still a good game, but it’s crowded. Too many people and too many bots. I saw that Knicks tickets hit their highest price ever, with the cheapest seat at $700 and floor seats going for $50,000. I guarantee some diehard fans are taking the money even if they want to go. When you can walk away with two or three grand or more, it’s hard to say no.
