Shane's Auction Picks for Saturday November 8th
I headed from Miami to Austin and got a hotel in the city. While in the bathroom, I thought I heard the radio. I looked around the room and didn’t see a speaker, so I figured maybe it was my phone—maybe I’d bumped it and a video was playing. I could hear it clearly, like it was coming from around me or above me. Then I thought maybe it was one of those fancy speaker lights like the one in my new bathroom, but I knew this hotel wasn’t quite that level of quality. I looked up, and it was a vent. The sound was coming from that vent.
It was two women talkin, clear as day, and it sounded like it was coming from the room above or maybe next door. Hard to tell, but I could hear what they were saying like it was a podcast. It wasn’t anything too wild, but definitely things I wasn’t supposed to hear.
Honestly, I was less concerned with privacy than with how annoying it was. Taking a shower, all I could hear was them. Using the bathroom, same thing. I even wondered if they could hear me. Of course, I wasn’t talking but I did have empanadas for breakfast 😂
I can’t believe nobody’s noticed or reported it, or maybe they have and there’s not much that can be done since it’s through the ventilation system. I’m using it as part of my new spy drama book: I bribe the hotel clerk to get the front desk person to put them in the room. They check it for bugs—nothing. I book the room next door, overhear everything, and save the world.
