I have mentioned over the years that I was not born with envy. So when kids and now adults tell me how much better they are than me it has zero effect. On X a guy told me he was wealthier than me and listed a few other things he thought he was better at, thinking I cared. There is always someone wealthier, stronger, faster, smarter, or better looking than you. If you let that bother you then you are in for a long day and a long life.
This is often confused with arrogance. It is not that I think I am better than anyone. I simply know I am not worse. I have my own value and I have worked hard to be successful in the things I care about. The desire for more comes from within. I do not chase anything except my personal goals. Those goals can be inspired by others. If I see someone my age running faster, I want to know what they are doing to be fast. I don’t understand what it means to be jealous of that person. I think it is great they are ahead and I want to learn from them.
It is the same for all my goals. I look at people who have achieved something and want to know their process and skill set that helped them get there. Anyone who criticizes me for things I do not have or brags about having more is wasting their time. The only opinions I care about are from my friends and family.
If you ever see me talk about wealth or things I have, it will always include the path to that achievement. The journey is what matters and what others can learn from. I love the skills of Messi, but when I watch him I want to understand how and why he makes passes and sees the field better than anyone else. What gives him that quick burst? What drills and conditioning allow him to stay at such a high level at this point in his career?
I measure life by growth, not comparison. Other people’s success motivates me to learn, not envy. My goals are set by my own standards and shaped by curiosity about how others achieve theirs. The only competition I see is with myself and the only validation I seek is from those I trust.
