Dynadot announced yesterday they have hit 9 million domains under management. It’s amazing how fast they are growing now. The run from 2 to 5 took a lot more time than it will take to go from 5 to 10. Undoubtedly they are a top 3 registrar in company value with GoDaddy and Namecheap. VCs would put a $1B+ valuation on them.

Speaking of registrars, I’ve enjoyed watching Unstoppable Domains start their registrar from scratch. They’ve come out of the gate with less-than-cost pricing to entice people to come over. The $5.99 Fridays seem to have drawn some customers over. We’ll see how the numbers change after the special ends in a week or so. Although the $7.99 “regular” price for their Domain Club should keep new registrations coming for them. I think pricing will help, but we all know it has to have a good UI/UX and be a strong platform. The only thing domainers like more than a good price is less work.

On a side note: You’ll see we’re running an ad for Right of the Dot’s new auction in March of .WS domains. Everyone knows I became infamous for thinking .ws could be a thing. I got called a shill and shamed for using my influence to get people to buy them. Ironically, I still think they have a chance to catch on. I have kept my LL.ws and NN.ws. I have also sold one every few years that more than pays for my renewals. I even sold one for $1,000 this year, but I stupidly let it expire a few months earlier. The best-of-the-best keywords are almost free and, I still think, have a good cost-to-opportunity value. But PLEASE don’t buy anything based on my words or me buying them. Make your own decisions. I can’t take the heat 😂
