Hope everyone in the US had a great Thanksgiving. I’m typing this as we head to see family, and you know I’m always complaining about my wife’s driving, but it really comes down to one thing. She uses old-school cruise control. In windy Illinois on curvy roads, that is brutal if you’re trying to write in the passenger seat. It holds the same speed straight, same speed in a curve, same speed uphill and down. So it feels like you’re slingshotting around corners and climbing hills with your stomach in your throat. Add the wind pushing the car around and you might as well put on a sea sickness bracelet.

I never use cruise control. I drove 13 hours straight last week and did the whole thing myself. I actually like driving.

If she had a Tesla with FSD it would be better. It drives more like a person instead of a metronome. I’d let that take over on long drives. The only problem is range. Those long hauls get stretched out with charging stops. They’re close to getting a full charge in 15 minutes, but I’m waiting until we’re at 300 to 400 miles in 15 minutes. We’re only a few years away, and a few cars are almost there already.

I also like the hybrids that give you a chunk of electric miles and then switch to gas. If I could get 100 miles electric and then gas after that, that’s perfect. We’re close on that too. But even if we get the perfect car, my wife will still find a way to make the ride uncomfortable. She hates driving anything over three hours
