Shane's Domain Auction Picks for Friday October 17th
If you ever wanted to know if there’s such a thing as too much information, you’re finding out now. One thing I used to like about working outside was that I wasn’t flooded with constant updates. I wasn’t reactionary and didn’t waste time thinking about daily news. Now I’m on X too much, watching the markets, and the volatility feels higher than ever. It doesn’t show in the VIX, but you can see it in the swings. Every time Trump speaks, the markets move in every direction because he rarely gives clear information and constantly changes his tone. On X, half the posts aren’t even true, but people still react to them. On other platforms, the posts are pure rage bait or misinformation built for engagement.
The last month I’ve started stepping back. I’m reading more books, ignoring my portfolio, and trying to be more patient with my actions. Same goes for domains. Sales are slow, but I’m sticking to the plan, buying good value, pricing the top names where they belong. I can’t let years of experience get tossed aside because of noise, and I did for a bit. I missed some great trades after letting negative headlines shake my confidence. I made emotional decisions based on things that shouldn’t have changed my outlook. It was costly in stocks and crypto. I’m still long on Bitcoin and companies tied to stablecoins, but I’ve cleared out the rest.
This is just a snapshot in time, but with AI pumping out endless content at the push of a button, the flood of information isn’t slowing down. I’m learning to adjust. This entry is my reminder of that.
