Shane's Domain Auction Picks for Friday October 24th

I’ll be leaving a week from Monday to head to Miami. Going a few days early for NamesCon because I have to leave Thursday for a race. I wanted to get there early and have some time to see the city. I’ve been to Miami, but it’s been a while. I have a few friends I’d like to meet up with outside of domains and a few restaurants I supply honey to that I want to visit for a bite.

As for the race, it’s a 50K with a little vert. I was feeling good about my training until the Chicago Marathon, and it put some doubts in my head. The last few weeks have been more about mental training than physical. Preparing for the hurt. Getting my mind ready to push. Knowing the goal is to finish and go as hard as I can, because it’s one day and then I can rest all winter. The difference between this and Chicago is I’m actually excited for this one. It feels different and fun, unlike Chicago where it was 52,000 people and everything was effort. From the hotel to the corral to running shoulder to shoulder through the crowds. I wasn’t mentally ready for that. I’ve been in the mountains and working from home, and while I normally feed off crowds and excitement, I just wasn’t having it. That was on me, something I need to work on.

One issue with NamesCon is I’ve only had one beer in the last seven months. Not that I’m avoiding alcohol, it just hasn’t come up. I’ve been using nicotine pouches for my buzz, and when I go out, I grab a cranberry and Sprite like a 12-year-old girl. Mostly because I have to run the next day or have things to do. I’ve gotten so used to not drinking and feeling good that I haven’t added it back. Now that it’s getting colder, coffee does the trick. At NamesCon I might have a drink, but not many, since I’ve got the race that weekend. I need carbs, but I don’t need anything that’s going to take away from the effort.

I also have a packing problem since I’m going straight from the conference to the race and have a whole race kit. I don’t think I paid for a checked bag either, so I better figure that out. Seven days of two completely different events is a shoe problem on its own. 😂
