Shane's Domain Auction Picks for Saturday April 4th
Last week in Colorado this week, and heading out to do a 50 miler. Elevation has a way of putting you in your place pretty quickly. You can feel like you’re in great shape and then get worked on a climb you’d barely notice back home. It’s not better or worse, just different. Flat and fast can hurt just as much as slow and a lot of climbing. Just hurt in different places. Domains are a lot like that.
I didn’t sell any domains this week, and it was still a great week. That’s something I’ve gotten more comfortable with over time. In domains, sales come in blocks. Nothing steady about it. A lot of the value in this business comes from things you don’t see right away. Setting up other avenues of income. Conversations, relationships, and planting seeds that may or may not turn into something later. You don’t get paid for your work but I can promise you it will pay off.
I’ve been focusing more on the process. Getting the runs in when I can and not worrying about pace as much as just doing the work. Same thing here. Everyone talks about the sale, but what actually moves things forward is the daily effort. Working with intention. Reaching out, following up, knowing your names, staying involved, having meetings. It all keeps things interesting and gives value to my day.
One thing that keeps standing out is communication. There’s more of it than ever, and somehow the quality of it is worse than ever. Everyone can say anything now, at scale, and it doesn’t carry the same weight. In this business and every business, trust still does most of the work. Always has, always will.
There’s also the usual noise online. Opinions, arguments, people trying to win points. X is just repetitive chatter with 2% of amazing info. It takes a heck of a filter to pick out the quality.
Reading info hasn’t changed much over the years. Just more to go through. Most of it doesn’t matter. The real value is still happening off platform, in private, the same way it always has. Insider info, asymmetric info, and quality leads with none of the me me me of social media.
Enjoy the weekend and Go Illini
