Owning a dog and having anxiety about range in an electric vehicle are exactly the same thing.

People will say that a dog takes away your ability to travel and have freedom. People also don’t want to buy electric cars because they worry about charging on a long trip.

Both of these happen maybe four times a year at most.

If you really think about how often you travel as a family, it’s not nearly as much as you think.

Finding someone to care for your dog in your home has become pretty easy with things like Rover. A well trained dog usually loves going to a friend’s house for a week.

As for the car, you might drive more than 300 miles maybe ten times a year. Charging once for 30 minutes is not a big deal. Catch up on emails or go grab a bite to eat. The trips where you need three or four charging stops are maybe once or twice a year, and nine times out of ten you probably have another car for that anyway.

The rest of the time, both of these are fantastic.

A dog is a loving part of the family and actually makes things easier when one of the spouses travels. It keeps the other person company. A dog is a wonderful companion.

A Tesla is a pretty amazing vehicle and cheap to run. If you have a few solar panels, it’s almost free.

Where I’m going with this is that people put way too much weight on problems that are such a small percentage of reality. They say no to things because they aren’t perfect two percent of the time, when in reality they improve the other ninety eight percent.

The mind is so focused on the negatives in life that you forget about the positives.
