I guess it’s better to be lucky than good. Yesterday morning, right after I wrote my opening post about energy and mentioned $BE, they announced yet another contract and the stock popped about 12%. Fortunately, I had just bought a decent block of shares. I wish I had gone in for six figures, but I didn’t get quite heavy enough.

So how am I playing this on the domain side?

I’m focusing on a handful of core keywords, but the bigger thing is understanding how often new energy companies are launching each year. That number has easily increased tenfold compared to where it was. When you layer in solar companies, charging stations, battery tech, and all the surrounding infrastructure, you end up with a lot of keyword angles worth owning.

I added roughly a dozen energy-related names last year and I’m planning to add another 40 to 50 this year.

As a side note, I’d like to take my portfolio from about 750 names to 1,000 this year. Last year I moved it from 600 to 750 with little to no hand registrations, so the quality held up. The goal now is to ramp it a bit more, but that means selling some names to help finance the plan.
