Shane's Domain Auction Picks for Wednesday August 20th
what do you do while you wait?
he worst and best thing about domain investing is the time between sales. I check my email way too often. I refresh Atom and Afternic 5, ok 10 times a day, looking for a sale. The crazy part is it wouldn’t change anything if I only checked at the end of the day. The money comes the same either way. Back when I ran a business, I paid myself a salary every week, so there was always something coming in. To get back to that feeling, I started paying myself a paycheck again. Technically, I give my wife a paycheck. It’s the same setup. It’s mental more than anything, just moving money from one account to another. There are some tax perks, but mostly it’s just for the feeling.
The best part is all the free time. I went from zero hours to plenty. Now if I have 3 or 4 things scheduled in a day, I hate it. I like working but don’t like being scheduled. My days are less structured than they used to be, but I’m learning to enjoy it. I’m still about 30% short of a full day’s worth of work, so I get a little bored. I’ll probably start a project when the weather turns cold. But that’s the beauty of domains: the freedom to choose what you do, or don’t do.
I do wish my portfolio was five times bigger so sales came more often. Right now I get 2–3 a month, which is fine for my size, but it’s inconsistent. Some months it’s zero, some months it’s six. A whole month with nothing is boring. Luckily, LTOs at least make it feel like there’s some money flowing in while I wait for the bigger sales. Maybe today is the day
Quote of the Day:Patience is not simply the ability to wait – it’s how we behave while we’re waiting.” – Joyce Meyer
Domain of the Day: Strike.io Already at 11K meaning its a six figure retail name to the bidders. Definitely maybe
