Wednesday's Daily Auction Picks and Andy Booth is one of the GOATs

Let’s talk about Andy Booth. He’s easily solidified himself as one of the GOATs. I can’t name another domain investor who has been at the top of the game for a longer period of time than Andy. When I met him 16 years ago, he was already doing well in the space. He was living in the States back then, and even then, he stood out. He was one of the people I looked up to and wanted to emulate. He just had a feel for flipping assets. Some people get it. Most don’t. Andy did.

Part of what took him to another level was his team. His younger brother James came into the mix, and they made a hell of a pair. But the part most people don’t know is how involved his mom was. I’m not just talking about supporting from the sidelines. I mean actively hunting names, negotiating, buying, and adding real value to their portfolio. She’s easily one of the best in the world at finding not for sale domains. Might actually be the best.

In the early days, Andy would find names and flip them to other domain investors for quick profits. He was the lifeblood for a lot of people. They relied on him to bring them good names. He probably could have held them longer and made more money, but quick cash meant he could keep the engine running. It gave him the flexibility to keep going after names. When he finally built up enough capital, he didn’t need to flip to others anymore. That changed the dynamic. The same people who used to call him a friend now had to compete with him. And once they had to go head-to-head, it didn’t go well for them.

One thing that separates Andy from the rest is how he looks at numbers. Most domain investors talk about multiples. “I got 10x” or “sold for 5x.” Andy doesn’t think like that. He measures in profit dollars. If he buys a name for $250K and sells it for $750K, he sees a $500K win. Most people wouldn’t even buy the name at $250K because they’re too focused on the multiple. He doesn’t care. He sees what a name can do and goes after it.

When .ai started heating up, Andy wasn’t afraid to overpay for the best naems. He saw it coming and locked down names that turned into a whole new revenue stream. That extension didn’t even matter five years ago, and now the Booth Brothers are pulling in millions in profit from it. But that didn’t mean Andy left dot com behind. Not even close. He’s more in than ever. Just this week he picked up Monarch.com. He’s still adding premium names and staying active in both spaces.

Andy always says he’s going to step back or get out of domains. But guys like him don’t quit. This game doesn’t age people out. What happens is people lose focus. They drift. They stop doing the work. Andy hasn’t. He’s still sharp. Still watching trends. Still buying the best names.

He and James are showing everyone how it’s done. Every cycle, every new TLD, every shift in the market—they’re there early and they’re making money. The results speak for themselves.
