Wednesday's Domain Auction Picks Hand Picked by Shane
same list, different email header
On Monday I told you I had a way to make a little money using catch-all emails for your domains. Here’s how it works. If you open your catch-all and have decent quality names, you’re going to notice a ton of emails for password resets and Google accounts. One thing that kept coming up was resets for social media accounts. Most of the time it isn’t the owner doing this, if you look, the account is dormant. The reason you’re seeing the resets is because people are trying to get them, but only you receive the codes. Once you know the email tied to the social media account, you simply reset the password, get the code in your catch-all, and boom, the social media name that matches your domain is yours.
I’ve gotten a lot of social media accounts this way, and some good ones too. On X, the hardest part of getting the accounts was not knowing the exact email connected to them. It gives you an idea, but seems impossible to guess. Or is it? I’ve put Twitter@domainname and picked up four accounts that way. Funny how people set up a separate Twitter email just for that. I laughed the first time it worked.
It’s much easier to get Instagram handles because you don’t need to put in the email, but I’ve found that not as many people who owned the dot com also owned the handle. Instagram tends to be less corporate and more personal. Still, it’s worth checking every time you buy a dot com. The social media handle may not add much value to the package, but it’s definitely worth more than zero. It could seal a deal or put a little extra cash in your pocket.
Quote of the Day: “You should want to own the exact match social media handle for your domains because your customers may want to own the exact match social media handles for their new domain” -Me
Domain of the Day: Clearis.com Because Clear.com is being sold by Media Options and it ain’t cheap
